Established in 2006, OscarDelta SPD researches, develops, designs and manufactures specialist tools and covert carry and concealment devices for law enforcement, military, security and other personnel who may be at risk of abduction, kidnap, restraint or unlawful detention while serving abroad.
If you are new to OscarDelta SPD and have just browsed our products, you may be wondering why you need them and what they are actually used for.
The short answer is that they are special products designed to facilitate and expedite escape from unlawful captivity — what we refer to as Fast Track Counter Custody.
An opportunity for escape may present itself during the early stages of an abduction: during transportation, from the boot/trunk of a vehicle, or from the rear seat of a vehicle with the child locks activated. If that early opportunity is lost, it is likely that personal possessions — including manufactured escape tools — will be taken from you during a search.
All is not necessarily lost. Those who have completed advanced training with 4TAC5 should be better prepared to recognise when to act, when to wait, and how to exploit another opportunity for escape while taking steps to improve their conditions during captivity.
Escape tools are not only about escape. Hostage-takers rarely exercise anything resembling a duty of care. An overtightened restraint may remain overtightened for hours or days. The ability to adjust or remove restraints can therefore make a significant difference to your welfare during captivity.
It is not possible for 4TAC5 to deliver advanced training to every OscarDelta SPD customer. At a minimum, we therefore recommend reading Karl OscarDelta’s handbooks: Escape!, How to Open Handcuffs Without a Key and Counter Kidnap & Hostage Survival 2.0.
With the appropriate knowledge, the importance of carrying and discreetly concealing an FT-CCK+ (Fast Track Counter Custody Kit) becomes much clearer. Just as importantly, you can begin to understand the function of each component and how some of those functions may be replicated using suitable found materials.
Equipment alone is never enough. Skills improve through regular, responsible practice with the types of restraints you may encounter, including duct tape, cable ties and different types of handcuffs. From there, the broader study of counter custody can include understanding physical security, recognising vulnerabilities and developing the problem-solving skills required to overcome obstacles during an emergency.
For some, the liberal arts and sciences of counter custody become a future study — a tradecraft through which knowledge, skills and experience are continually developed, so that they may be better enabled to discharge their duty to escape.
